For Your 'Burgside Pleasure!
Well, if the 'Burg isn't just gunnin' to catch up with Tampa on the sophisticated restaurant racetrack.
First, Bella Brava, which I loooooove and think does a marvelous job of rounding out The Other Side, and now, Ceviche in a new location where the old Bellagio used to be!
The Fine Feathered Friend has been telling me about the plans for the new Ceviche forever. He's a marvelous young man - a bartender at the Tampa version for awhile, and now heading up the new barstaff - so when he told me to mark November 8 as Debut Day, I made sure I did. How can you not listen to a young man who wears a delicate blue seashell on a whoppingly, masculine gold chain?
Of course, I immediately forgot, but, then, yesterday was "one of those days," so when Mark began discussing dinner, I was sorta grumpy until I remembered the date! Perfect timing! An evening saved!
We went down there and, at first, we were like, wow, what the f*ck is Triple F smoking? There was a bunch of cardboard all over the sidewalk, and the entry gate was locked, but then we peeked downstairs and noticed that a bunch of the usual suspects were lounging in the basement, so we popped down, and, lo and behold, Cafe Alma better get their ass in gear, 'cause Ceviche's gonna kill that joint.
Gordon brought me upstairs where the renovations are still underway, which was pretty sweet, since all I did was ask for the ladies room, so I banged out a few minutes of Ceviche's main man himself talking about his mega-efforts. It turns out he's got more of the socialist in him than I would have expected. He's devolved ownership to his staff, so that everybody is on board in a big way. That is just beautiful. For real.
It also substantiates all that bubbling out of Triple F about hitting Fort Lauderdale, which, honestly, I thought maybe had something to do with blue seashells more than reality, but I guess not. I never should have doubted you, my Fine Feathered Friend!
And, hey, big ups to Mr. Luis Baro of The Move, whom I do not know but quite revere anyway, for his weekend recommendations. True house aficionados will know immediately by my thanks where I'm going. The rest of you need to go read!
